KEEP PERINTON BEAUTIFUL

The Preserve Scenic Perinton Alliance, Inc (PSPA) is a grass roots organization formed on May 21, 2007 by dozens of homeowners in Perinton, New York.

The PSPA was created as a response to very-recent discoveries by average citizens of a proposed Phase III and Vertical expansion of the High Acres Landfill in eastern Perinton. Town approval is pending, but its leadership is actively endorsing the landfill's expansion.

An approval from the town and the subsequent expansion could potentially jeopardize our beautiful landscape, quality of life and value of homes and property in Perinton. We intend to work to protect our town and our environment!

We believe that the dissenting opinions have been inadequately argued on the people's behalf nor, until our involvement, was the process effectively communicated to us by our town representatives. Moreover it is our position that there was a lack of transparency in the negotiations for the Host Community Benefit Agreement between the town of Perinton and Waste Management of New York, LLC. It is our contention that the town chose not to pursue benefits and remedies that address the real issues and concerns specific to the neighborhoods in the immediate vicinity of the landfill.

The PSPA is committed to five key goals:
  1. Permanently stop any further expansion and close the landfill when the current permit expires
  2. Require Waste Management to be more accountable in addressing current landfill concerns
  3. Improve the town decision-making process, by holding it accountable to effectively inform and include citizens when significant landfill-related matters arise
  4. Create an empowered Citizens Advisory Committee involved with Waste Management and the Town in landfill-related planning
  5. Revise and improve the Host Community Benefits Agreement to bring greater financial, aesthetic and service-related benefits to the people of Perinton
